General Description and Purpose:
The Music Director/Minister is an integral part of the ministry of the church. The Music Director / Minister’s primary focus is to prepare the choir for their active participation and leadership role in the Sunday worship services and other special services as required, along with engaging in worship with the congregation. This role is currently a part-time position, ideal for someone looking to build into a future calling.

To the Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee
Responsibilities:
Direct the hymns/songs and the choir anthems for the Sunday morning worship services.
Select all music for services and special events in coordination with the pastor, liturgical season.
Submit hymns, songs, and anthem names to volunteers who prepare bulletin.
Rehearse with the choir weekly in preparation of services and special events and cantatas.
(Currently taking place on Wednesdays at 6pm)
Work closely with accompanists, as well as providing hymn selections in advance.
Arrange and recruit soloists, accompanists, and instrumentalists as needed.
Maintain and utilize music library (filing and organizing).
Special Service Responsibilities:
Select and arrange for musical presentations at additional services during Holy Week (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday), Easter cantata and Advent/Christmas season (Christmas cantata).
Meet with the Pastor before the Christmas and Easter seasons to coordinate and plan special music presentations and ideas.
Other Responsibilities:
Maintain choir music budget and coordinate purchases with the church office.
Arrange for purchase of new music and supplies within budget limitations.
Present annual budget requests to church leadership.
Attend church leadership meetings, and others when asked/when available.
Be available to speak to the general feel and atmosphere of worship within the choir and congregation.
Arrange for a substitute when absent, along with keeping the pastor informed.
Maintain a consistent presence with a limit of two Sunday absences per year.
Requested to maintain current dress code expectations of all church leadership.
Qualifications:
Accomplished vocalist with choral group experience.
Instrumental skills are desired but not required.
Bachelor’s degree with music major or minor or in the process of seeking education in a music field (Equivalent experience and knowledge can be in lieu of this educational request.)
Solo performance experience is desired.
Ability to lead and perform various styles of music.
High level of overall musicianship.
Enthusiastic, positive, and organized. Excellent personal communication skills are essential.
A demonstrative life of Christian faith and practice and holds a commitment to Christian theology that is compatible with the doctrine, values and traditions of The Global Methodist Church.
Evaluation:
First three (3) months will be a probationary period with required weekly communication (either in person or by phone or email) with the Pastor/SPRC Chair or his/her appointee.
Annual ministry review/visit will be conducted each calendar year by the Pastor and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Terms of Employment:
Compensation: $9,600 a year
Weekly hours:
6:00 – 7:00 pm each Wednesday evening for choir practice
9:30 am – 12pm each Sunday
Planning time: suggest at least 2 hours per week
